The Hunger Games - A Book Review

I've read the book and now I am totally stoked about the movie coming out this week!  The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is on my  2012 Reading List  and of course I had to get it read before the movie was released.  I decided to listen to this series using the audio version and once I started listening, I couldn't stop! Once I finished the first book I immediately had to get my hands on Catching Fire and then of course Mocking Jay, books one and two, respectively, in The Hunger Games series.  I absolutely fell in love with the characters and felt such sadness when they were competing in the Hunger Games and so mad at the Capital and the game makers for creating such a horrible event.  Of course, I am a hopeless romantic and absolutely adore Peeta and his love for Katniss and that he would do whatever he had to do to protect her throughout the games, even though at the end they both knew there could only be one survivor.  It truly is a wonderful ser...

Shopaholic & Baby ~ A Book Review

"Becky's life is blooming!  She's working at London's newest big store, The Look, house-hunting with husband Luke (her secret wish is a Shoe Room)...and she's pregnant!  She couldn't be more overjoyed - especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness.  Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery...to the latest, coolest pram...to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician.  But when the celebrity obstetrician turns out to be Luke's glamorous, intellectual ex-girlfriend, Becky's perfect world starts to crumble.  She's shopping for two...but are there three in her marriage?" - taken from the back cover of  Shopaholic & Baby . I absolutely love the author Sophie Kinsella and the Shopaholic series.  I have been reading these books for years and after the first one, Confessions of a Shopaholic , they do tend to be repetitive and pretty predictable, but they are still very fun books to read. ...

Ford County ~ A Book Review

My husband and I are both huge fans of John Grisham's novels.  I have been reading his writings since I was 19 years old.  My husband, on the other hand, got hooked about three years ago when I checked out an audio book from the library for him to listen to when he traveled for work.  Since then we have obtained quite a nice collection of John Grisham books and well, I guess you can  say, we're hooked! I pre-ordered this book when it first came out and this summer finally had a chance to read it and lets just say, I LOVED IT !    The book contains 7 short stories: Blood Drive Fetching Raymond Fish Files Casino Michael's Room Quiet Haven Funny Boy Ford County takes us back to Clanton.  Grisham first introduced us to this southern Mississippi town in his very first novel, A Time To Kill.   This collection of short stories, in my opinion, is one of his greatest works.  Each story is different, yet they seem to be loosely tied toget...

The Pilot's Wife

o ne day last summer, while at the public library with the kids, I picked up the book The Pilot's Wife , by Anita Shreve.  In the foyer of our library is a large selection of books that, for any donation, is yours to take home and keep.  You never know what you are going to stumble upon and I find it quite fun looking through the diverse collection of books on the shelves.  This one had the  Oprah's Book Club stamp on it, so I thought it would probably be a good read and well worth a donation to the library. I recently spent two weeks in my hometown in KY, so when packing for my trip I grabbed this book off the shelf and threw it in my carry on bag to read on the plane.  I thought it might be a little more interesting, you know, reading the Pilot's wife while flying on a plane.  Little did I know that in the first two pages the author would reveal that the main character's husband, who is a...

Holding Fast

k aren James.  Listening to her story this past summer at  Women Of Faith , in Dallas, Tx, brought me to tears.  I was so moved by her story and her unfailing faith, i felt compelled to buy her book, Holding Fast: The Untold Story of the Mount Hood Tragedy.   For an entire year after the tragic accident of her husband, Kelly James, becoming trapped on Mount Hood, Karen gathered facts and information about this horrible tragedy, in 2006, that changed her life forever.  This book is her story of what really happened to her husband and his two climbing partners and friends, Brian Hall and Jerry "Nikko" Cooke".  Even though, before you even begin reading the book, you already know the outcome, it is a book I found hard to put down.  Her faith, love for her husband, love for her God, and her family, and her strength after she lost her husband gave me, a reader, something to thrive for in my ow...
